Liz Garland, Roseville, CA State Advocate
I have been a member of Leave No Trace since 2001 and the state advocate for California since 2002. During my tenure as state advocate, I have made communication and partnership with local, state, federal and youth serving agencies a priority. I continue to work closely with Girl Scouts to assure that the national organization is actively encouraging councils across the nation to practice Leave No Trace and make our ethics part of outdoor educational curriculum.
I am excited to see a variety of Master Educator courses being offered in California during 2011. This is in part thanks to a solid partnership with folks at the USFS, NPS, and BLM. Thank you for your support! There is a solid group of Master Educators in Southern California who continue to offer Trainer courses and Awareness workshops to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, in addition to other youth agencies and educational camps. Thanks to each of you for all your efforts!
Outdoor enthusiasts are the key to spreading the ethics of Leave No Trace and I am excited to see that daily more and more Californians are joining the ranks of Leave No Trace supporters. California is a large state so the more adults and youth willing to spread the Leave No Trace message, the more successful our efforts will be! If you want to volunteer at a community event, arrange a trainer course or awareness workshop in your community, or just want to learn more about Leave No Trace, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Each of us can make a difference!
