Together, we can provide workshops and trainings for your group or organization that will ultimately minimize the impact and maximize the enjoyment of our wild places in Indiana. Leave No Trace Trainer Course | Monticello, IN

When- Friday/Saturday/Sunday, March 9-11, 2012

Where:

Description: This course will allow participants to learn and practice in an outdoor setting the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace and prepare individuals to act as Leave No Trace-recognized Trainers from Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics (www.lnt.org).  The training includes 16 hours of hands-on instruction and overnight camping.  The first night camping (Friday) will be conducted in a frontcountry setting impacted site and the second night camping (Saturday) will be conducted in a pristine backcountry setting.  Participants will need to hike a short distance to the backcountry site. 

As part of the Trainer Course curriculum, participants will also be required to lead a 10-15 minute discussion or presentation on one of the Leave No Trace principles or other impact topic.  Further details and resources will be provided upon registration.  This course is being presented as a joint collaboration of Leave No Trace Master Educators from Indiana and Illinois who are approved training providers for the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. 

Who: Any individual adult or youth at least age 14 interested in learning and practicing the 7 Principles Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics and teaching them to others or general outdoor enthusiasts who want to learn the skills needed to minimize their recreational impacts.  Typical attendees include backpackers, paddlers, Scouts, Venturers, Scout leaders, camp counselors, guides, outdoor groups/clubs, specialty outdoor retail associates and trip leaders.  Every Scouting unit, outdoor organization or club should have at least one Leave No Trace Trainer.   Open to the public.      

Cost: $89.00 per person (or $35 for Scouts-see below).  The fee covers all food, snacks and beverages, group equipment, camp fees, training equipment, training materials,  a comprehensive LNT Trainer’s Kit (includes Trainer lapel pin, Trainer patch, LNT sticker, some Leave No Trace gear, posters, reference cards, booklets, pocket guides, videos, training activities, etc.), certificate, and extensive educational support to conduct your own Leave No Trace Awareness Workshops.   

Scouts, Scouters and other eligible youth group members from the same unit attending the same course may do so at a reduced fee of only $35 per person (covers all food, snacks and beverages, group equipment, camp fees, training equipment, training materials, LNT sticker, reference card, and certificate) when their unit then purchases separately the LNT Trainer’s Kit for $65. 

The instructors are volunteering their time and resources to provide this course.
Pre-registration is required.  Walk-on participation is not permitted.

Gear: Participants need to bring their own personal camping equipment (a list is provided upon registration).   Some personal equipment such as tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and backpacks are available for rent at a 25% discount if you don’t have your own.  Visit www.greenearthoutdoors.com  or call 502-475-7445 for details. 

Course Times: The course begins with registration and camp set up at 6:00 pm on Friday with the program starting at 7:00 pm.   The course will conclude by 11:00 am on Sunday.

YOUTH MEMBERS: To support the addition of Leave No Trace elements to the Boy Scouts of America (this Trainer Course is required for Boy Scouts who have been appointed to the Position of Responsibility of Leave No Trace Trainer) and Girl Scouts of the USA program, youth (at least age 14) are encouraged to attend.   A parent or registered adult Scouter(s) who is trained and complies with their respective program’s youth protection policies should attend with the youth.
