“I love to go a-Wandering…”
For as long as I can remember I have loved the out-of-doors. I grew up in the age when playing outside all day was the norm. As a youth, I learned to hunt, fish, and camp. I became a Scout in 1948, earned the Eagle Rank in 1958. Over the years since, I have expanded my knowledge of the outdoors and scout craft to include Minimum Impact and Leave No Trace camping.
Both of my children were Scouts, one Boy Scout, and one Girl Scout. My wife, Kate, who was also a Scout, and I tried to instill a solid sense of core values and ethics in our children and all the other kids we came in contact with.
When I was introduced to Leave No Trace in the late’90’s, I knew I had found an exciting program whose mission is to demonstrate, educate, and perpetuate the principles of outdoor ethics that I believe in. I have been teaching the Leave No Trace Principles ever since.
I became an Leave No Trace Master Educator in 2003 through a NOLS course. From that time until today, I and a small group of other Master Educators have been conducting Trainer Courses, Awareness Workshops and seminars here in Kansas.
By taking on the responsibilities as your State Advocate, I hope to bring the mission and principles of Leave No Trace to as many of you here in Kansas and elsewhere as possible. I also serve as the Outdoor Ethics Advocate for the Jayhawk Area Council, BSA.
I hope you will join me in this adventure.
