Karen O'Brien, Mendon, MA State Advocate
I live in the town of Mendon, Massachusetts, located in Central MA. Formerly a rural farming community, it is experiencing rapid growth and suburbanization. Opportunities for outdoor recreation are becoming more controlled and minimized, as more and more open land is being developed. The Frontcountry Initiaitve is something that I believe will become a valued resource for Leave No Trace education in Massachusetts, both because of our limited resources and demographics). My goals have always been to conduct whatever types of LNT outreach are necessary to spread the word about Leave No Trace and how our impact on the land affects not only us but whoever comes after. Youth groups have been a particularly receptive and appreciative audience to the LNT story, and I have enjoyed reaching out to that facet of our community. I urge anyone interested in learning more about LNT to contact me. I would welcome the opportunity to conduct a weekend LNT Trainer course, a workshop of any duration or for any group, or what have you?
