Rita Hussman, St. Paul, Minnesota State Advocate
Greetings from the Land of 10,000 Lakes! My name is Rita Hussman and I am the new Leave No Trace State Advocate for Minnesota.
My background includes a diverse mixture of personal and professional experiences that have prepared me to take on many new and exciting challenges throughout my lifetime. I bring with me years of experience working with children, youth and families in the public school setting, small business ownership, and a life-long history of paddling, canoe-camping and many other nature-based interests and experiences.
I am also a Minnesota Master Naturalist and volunteer Project WET, Project WILD and Project Learning Tree environmental education facilitator for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Being a true believer in experiential education and intergenerational programming, I am passionate about engaging youth and families in service-learning and other initiatives that promote environmental literacy.
As the Minnesota State Advocate I would like to see a concerted effort to deliver the Leave No Trace message to all Minnesotans. I encourage everyone and anyone in Minnesota with an interest in environmental stewardship, responsible outdoor recreation or strengthening the connection between people & nature to contact me. I would love to know what you are doing and discuss how I may be able to support your efforts.

The Frontcountry Master Educator course is an extensive, four-day course designed to train educators and others ways to practice and teach Leave No Trace skills and ethics.
The course provides participants with a comprehensive overview of Leave No Trace techniques through practical application in a Frontcountry setting. Students who successfully graduate a Master Educator course will receive a certificate, membership to Leave No Trace and will be qualified to offer and teach two-day Leave No Trace Trainer Courses.
Base-camp will be set up at the St. Cloud State University’s CELL Field Station, and participants will spend four days learning and teaching the principles of Leave No Trace near one of the state’s most significant archeological sites, Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, a National Historic Landmark located.
