The PEAK program is the result of a unique partnership between REI (Recreation Equipment, Inc.) and the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. PEAK is based on the seven principles of Leave No Trace and is designed to educate children about the outdoors and responsible use of our shared public lands.

Program Overview

Packing with PEAK grants award the PEAK and Teen program curriculums to youth-serving organizations. For more information about the PEAK program and the materials it includes, please view the PEAK page for photos and activity descriptions.

This program is administered by the Center for Outdoor Ethics and supported by a generous grant from REI. Consideration will be given to grassroots, community-based groups who adhere to the Leave No Trace mission and whose goal is to communicate outdoor skills and ethics to youth audiences.

The Center will give strongest consideration to projects or organizations that:

• Have a local, regional and/or community focus
• Have specific objectives quantifiable by the grant applicant
• Mobilize volunteers to successfully reach a project goal

Organizations that are accredited by the American Camp Association are encouraged to apply.

Application Process

Deadlines: March 1, June 1, September 1, 2011

Eligibility: The Center requests that applicants be individual members or partners of Leave No Trace. For more information, please visit Support Leave No Trace. Due to the number of grant requests received, the Center is unable to award international grants and cash grants at this time. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns!

To apply, please submit a proposal via the Center's online grant application which will ask the following questions:

• Describe yourself and your organization, if applicable, the nature of your work, as well as recent achievements as they relate to the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics' mission.
• Address the specific need for Leave No Trace training, outreach and education within your area or organization, including the demographics of your particular audience/community.
• Describe how you intend to apply the grant/scholarship within your community.
• Please estimate the number of people you intend to reach with Leave No Trace education.
• Please list other organizations/volunteers you could collaborate with to provide Leave No Trace education and outreach through this grant.
• Please provide an estimated number of volunteer hours that could result from this grant.
• Please list three anticipated outcomes of this training and/or grant award, as well as how you intend to measure success.
• List specific materials and quantities.

The Center does not support:

• Political advocacy or lobbying efforts
• Litigation efforts
• Capital campaigns or property acquisitions
