Program Overview

In response to the number of requests from organizations in need of Leave No Trace materials, training and information, the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics has established the Tools for Teaching Fund. Consideration will be given to grassroots, community-based groups who support Leave No Trace and whose main goal is to communicate outdoor skills and ethics to diverse audiences.

Grant recipients will receive assistance in the form of educational materials only. If you work with youth, please consider our Packing with PEAK grant.

Unfortunately the Center is not able to provide promotional items through this program (i.e. tee shirts, stickers, water bottles, mugs).

The Center will give strongest consideration to projects that:

• Have a local, regional and/or community focus
• Have specific objectives quantifiable by the grant applicant
• Mobilize volunteers to successfully reach a project goal

Application Process

Eligibility: The Center requests that applicants be individual members or partners of Leave No Trace. Membership begins at $15/yr. For more information, please visit Support Leave No Trace Due to the number of grant requests received, the Center is unable to award international grants at this time. Note: The maximum value of educational materials awarded is $500 per applicant/organization per year. Cash grants are not available at this time. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns!

To apply:

• Submit a proposal via the Center's official grant application;
• Include a project summary and an itemized project budget;
• Include a description of yourself and your organization, the nature of your work, as well as a summary of recent activities as they relate to Leave No Trace;
• Provide an estimate of how many people will be reached through your Leave No Trace educational efforts;.
• Include a timeline for the project's completion (within one year of Leave No Trace grant).
• Describe evaluation techniques used to measure the project's success.

The Center does not support:

• Political advocacy or lobbying efforts.
• Litigation efforts.
• Capital campaigns or property acquisitions.

Grants are reviewed and awarded on a monthly basis. The Center will respond to all applicants within six weeks of their request.
